| Generally, stain can be classified into two types: Organic and Inorganic. | |||||
Organic stains are caused by those materials, which are derived from living organisms. For example, most foods, drinks, plants, wood and some dyes are all considered organic stains. | |||||
Inorganic stains are those material, which are not derived form living organisms. They are usually mineral in nature, for example, copper and rust world be considered inorganic stains. Inorganic stains are mineral in nature and so are natural stones. Iron is compound found naturally in stone and will oxidize and rust and cause the stone to turn yellow brown or red. This occurs quite frequently in white marble, granite and some limestone. If the stains in these stones are caused by oxidation of iron as part of the stone, it will not come out. | |||||
Most stains can be removed form natural stone with a process known as poulticing. Poulticing is similar to using a sponge to absorb liquid. A suitable powder materials is mixed with a liquid cleaning agent and placed on the stain and allowed to dry. As it dries it absorbs or draws the stain from the stone. | |||||
